How NOT to do a comic...

I know that everyone knows about this guy, but still, it has to be said. And I say this knowing that my stuff isn't/wasn't exactly gold, either... but it has to be said!

I mean, to do a comic, you have to have a good, or at least decent (or if not decent, at least presentable) idea. What is being audiobooked on in that video is NONE of those things. Aside from the obvious, there's a lot of other issues (and we all know about all those other issues the "artist" has, so I'm not going to go over those).

Also, later on, the "artist" starts putting in events that happens to him into this "comic"... including a part where he proxy-murders those that wronged him... just because they dare do a parody of his "work"... well, there's a lot wrong, here. I mean... look here and here.

I'd go on more, but... yeah, I'd rather not. Basically, try and NOT do what this person did when making your own comic.

And, P.S.... I liked the other narrator they used for that project. He did things right! :D

This is the second pinup pose for Quinn, but there are quite a few problems with it here and there. The face and head looks odd, and had to redraw it a few times. Also, the body looks... odd. One arm seems to be longer than the other... but I dunno. The dress/theme for this one seems to be a good idea, but it could've been done better.

Hey, it's a drawing of Quinn! From "Daria"! I think I drew her a few times...

Anyway, I was talking to a friend the other day about her and the show, and the thing is, she did this sort of thing all the time on the show: she'd show herself off, but never put out, unlike ~~possibly~~ Sandi. Basically, she was a cocktease to whoever she dated. I mean, there was talk of her becoming a stripper later in life, among other things.

Whenever I would draw her in the ways I would draw her, I basically took this thing that she did all the time, and overexaggerated it for my own ends. Not many approved of it, but that's how she was. Besides, whoever got to touch her (and do more than that) would be one very lucky, very happy boy... but I bet even then she'd deny him.

So... yeah. She'll go out on a date with you boys, but let's face it... You Can't Touch This!!!

And besides, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a little Alternative Character Interpretation, now is there?

There will be more of these. Besides, Quinn found a way to raise these poor boys' hopes up: Pinup Posters!

As for the drawing, what's there is there, and what's ain't is ain't. Practice practice practice.

Shrinking Kayla

Commission for ~Tsuyoshi-kun. Instead of the 3 sketches/$10 deal, said $10 went to a sequence. This is of a character of his creation, Kayla. She looks quite different from the two design sketches I did for him:

This is her sitting on her bed, eating fries and shrinking... not to mention the extra panel of her getting BE'd (and it's sort of a "cheater" way this time around; she's the same size, but I made the shirt tighter and smaller).

This took quite a while to do, including the three different edits to panels five and six... but it was worth it in the end. The customer was happy with it... and I might do a couple of extra things with this girl later on

It looks like Tiffany's a bit late for Halloween. She was too busy ~~being really high~~ ~~being too dumb to live~~ just being... Tiffany.

She did, however make up for it with a sexy costume, based on this alter-ego of her. (Kinda makes you wonder if that whole act of hers was just a put-on...)

A Hula-Girl Halloween!

There are quite a few OCs on Deviantart that I like, and I never get around to drawing most of them. One of those OCs that I did draw is one belonging to one Ron Murphy, aka ShoNuff44. He's a very good artist, and he has been around a pretty long time.

I've drawn her a few times in the past, and when I was able to get a trade with him, I asked to draw her again... but it took a while to come up with an idea or ideas... but I did manage to do a couple of things.

This first one has a couple of the neighborhood kids trick-or-treating with her, and one of them, Renfrew, thinks she's one of the older kids.

I really like this second one that I did. She switches places with my character Diane, who for ShoNuff44's half, was a Hooters waitress:

Sugar Sugar Cleo-chan!

This is my end of a trade with a great artist named Harpyqueen on DA. She does some excellent work, and this is not my first trade with her. The above drawing is of her character Cleo, who is most certainly NOT a magical girl.

I had fun with this one. This took about an hour to do (including the 15 minutes that it took to clean this up in Photoshop). This is the most dynamic pose that I did, and it came out well.

This took about 45 minutes to do, plus 15 minutes cleaning it up in Photoshop... no, wait... Adobe(R) Photoshop[tm]. (The Photoshop people are just anal about that.)

Anyway, this is Stacy Rowe, one of the members of the Fashion Club, and a fan favorite. Her costume this year is that of a sexy, wicked witch. Ironic? YOU BET!

Rose the Genie Sketch

Here's a sketch of a character named Rose. She's a genie, and I drew her before. I rarely draw this girl, and how she came to be... I'd rather not say except she started as a photo reference somewhere. Basically, a lot of stuff happened after that... not all of it good stuff :(

I want to try something different, and the whole genie thing looks cool. There's this really neat person on DA named Sunrise-Oasis that draws this sort of stuff on a regular basis, and it's so fuckin' well-done. Here's one of their pieces:

There might be more genie artists on DA, but Sunrise-Oasis is one of the best... and they're the first that I watched, too. FUN FACT: I came back to DA a few months back after being banned for nearly two years. I added them to my watch LITERALLY minutes before I got banned.

That aside, they're pretty nice. A bit... eccentric, but nice. (And I mean "eccentric" in a very good way. Sometimes being that way leads to being good at what you do.

Here is a sketch with Bee as the Devil. What's different (aside from the errors), is that I did the line of action first, then built everything around it. It makes for easier posing.

Bee does look a little bit different, though. That's because I redesigned her a bit here and here.

Drawing-A-Day Challenge! Starts Today! Be There!

I only did this one other time, but now it's time to do it again.

I like drawing. I like to draw. I've been drawing for a long time. HOWEVER, since I began showing up online posting stuff years ago, things have not been great. I'm not talking about those things this time.

A lot of great people and artists have given me advice, and so far I've barely followed it. I'm pretty disappointed in that.

So starting later today, I'm going to do what others have done: a Drawing-A-Day challenge. I will post at least one new drawing here every day. It could be anything: Something sketchy, something colored, maybe the occasional digital thing (but something like that might take a while to complete).

I really want to try to get better at drawing after 15+ years of... well, I guess you could call what I have been doing "drawing".

That's the reason why I've been posting up a lot of my old, crappy drawings lately. I want to try to draw a new version of them, with new different poses, attempts at new angles, and hopefully improved anatomy. Some of the stuff I put up recently is a step in the right direction :)

She's in sleepwear, and it's not of the sexy persuasion. The feet look funny and the arms look to be too long. And what about the hand that is showing? I dunno...

Both of these are part of a stack of requests I'm doing at a place I frequent... not one of the usual places I frequent, either. Hopefully new poses and etc. might be in some of these that I do.

Well, after seeing this, I decided that Bee's going back to her old self, however 1) I'm keeping her a History teacher, and 2) toning her the HELL down. She'll still be... well, Bee... just not the whoreish supermonster she became by the time I was banned from DA.

Schoolgirl Neko... Lorelei!

Glaring anatomy supererrors aside, this is how Lorelei will be from now on, as part of that MASSIVE CHARACTER RETOOLING!!! I mentioned in the last post.

I'm coming up for ideas for several comics, and this one is basically resetting certain things, especially with Bee and Lorelei. For one thing, Bee will be left pretty much unchanged from how I had her, but I'm toning her way the hell down. By the end of my time on DA, she had (in the opinions of many) become some sort of bitchy, unrepentant superwhore that uses sex as a solution to every little thing. She had always been sarcastic (if not slightly bitchy) and a bit... um, playful, but at that point those things have gotten to where she just became... unpleasant.

More on that later, but as for Lorelei, I think making her unrelated to Bee would be a good thing. The idea to make her a catgirl came from this picture...
Man, that's a bit large.

But what I did here, was make her a catgirl trying to hide her ears and tail, only popping up when she's excited. Me and a friend came up with the idea, among other things concerning her. I do have to change the ears and tail to match her hair color, and the wings might not show up later. I think Lori's better off as a catgirl, among other things. Hopefully there will be more about this later.

I finally finished coloring the lineart, and the background is part of one of the photos I took earlier.

It took quite a while to color this, too. I started a couple of weeks ago, did some other stuff, then finished it up early this morning.

The pose is nothing special... just the standard "girl standing with hands behind her head" pose. I really need to stop using that damn pose.

She Tried It Once - Titfuck

I kinda did this for a friend. It turned out better than expected, so it's here.

Di is the kind of girl that's willing to try anything once... anything. So, when a coworker asked her if she ever had a titfuck, she asked what one was... and he just had to show her. There was quite a mess to clean up afterwards.

This is the first time I drew a girl getting a titfuck... and the first time drawing a guy's junk. Things could be better, as usual (and dirtier, in this case).

So, tell me... what do you want my Di to try?

First off, the word "spaceshippening" and the bald guy in the corner are unrealated. This was part of a bigger page of sketches.

The girl and the plant monster are related, however. The dark elf girl's name is Demi, and she's a character of mine that started out in a rather... um, unusual way. She started out as a character in a story that FA user JWargod commissioned. I did 16 pages for him (only eight are posted on his FA, with my permission, though), and it came to be that he was unable to continue the story. I asked that since I had a good time coming up with stuff for her, if she could be one of my characters, and he said yes. I had to change/rearrange most details of her backstory, though.

So, not only am I'm trying to come up with ideas for her, but I also started drawing my character Diane a lot more, and changing her character to fit as well... and that includes trying to get a new comic off the ground involving these two.

So, I decided to pick out one idea, and this is what I came up with, based on the sketch: Di and Demi take a vacation on a tropical island, and they get attacked by a giant plant monster. A certain girl saves them from certain doom and befriends them. Hijinks, action, and fanservice ensue. That's as far as I got as far as plotting out the story. That's pretty much the outline, there. In fact, I got the idea for this from that one drawing I linked to.

If/when I get to the comic proper, I want to do characterization RIGHT... especially since I want to use Ron Murphy's character, Hula-Girl. Of all his characters, she's my favorite, and if I was going to put her in something, I don't want to half-ass it in terms of characterization... ESPECIALLY since he's a very popular artist, and he's been doing the online thing FAR longer than I have. I don't want people kicking my ass over the internet. There's been enough of that as is. Anyway, I hope the guy helps me as far as keeping her in character is concerned. I noted him on FA about this, and I hope to hear from him soon.

But, before I can do any of that, I have to outline the idea more, build the story proper from it, and most importantly, DRAW DRAW DRAW!!! If I want this looking remotely... good, I'll have to do that, and I'll have to do that a lot.

Another try at King-Cheetah's style. Even then, I still dunno.

Style (King-Cheetah's, Kevin Sano's, whoever) is all well and good, but skill (anatomy, posing, those motherfuckin' hard-to-draw hands) is better, and I have been working on that. I just haven't posted it. Either that, or I'll put it on my blog from now on... I dunno.

What I do know, however, is that those hands look broken in the "pose" that I've put them in.

Eh, more later, probably. But out of an entire page of sketches, this was the only one that I felt was "public enough" to post.

Nurses, Etc.

Quinn and Sandi as nurses, and Brittany as one as well. The full-body sketches of Quinn and Sandi (and Britt, maybe), I tried to copy King-Cheetah's style again... but again it didn't come off quite right. (Maybe the boobs aren't big enough for Quinn and Sandi, but I digress ;)) I did visualize the Quinn and Sandi poses, so that helped out a bit... more so for Sandi's than Quinn's... but I dunno.

Also in bottom right was me trying to draw Stacy in another pose, but it came off all wrong.

I do like how I colored this, though... all soft and with shading. When I scanned it in the next day, though, it didn't come out the way I wanted to come out. Also, this was one of the last drawings I scanned with it before I went and got my current scanner.

Jennie Hedrick is a mid-level employee at Steven's Foods (formerly Slovenly's, Inc.), where she processes orders. supervises other employees, and is an all-around good worker. Up until some months ago, she was a fairly boring person.

She used to be that way due to what happened at the company's first (and needless to say, last) holiday party several years ago. Unbeknownst to her, one of her coworkers decided to... well, Jaeger up the eggnog. Jennie had several cups, and soon she was stripping off her clothes while her coworkers egged her on.

Now, her doing that was pretty damn hot, but Jennie had one HELL of a hangover, woke up somewhere on the other side of town, took a DRASTIC pay cut, and was forced to work at home for the next few months. (Yeah, her boss was a colossal hardass...) Though she eventually got her old position and salary back, she decided to keep mostly to herself...

...that is until some months ago, when she met her boyfriend...

This was my first drawing of 2010! I've never really drawn Jennie topless, and if I did, it was YEARS ago. Hell, until today, I've never really posted any drawings of her since I... um... "left" DA.

Drawing her tipsy was a good excuse to try out something different as far as posing was concerned. There are still a few things to work out all across the board. I especially had a lot of trouble with that right arm of hers.

The entire things looks odd, but it's different.

Anything else I'm missing? Critique up!

Old Stuff - Sexy Nurse Quinn

SANDI (on other end): Which time? We did have that theme week, as well as various other... costume-y occasions...

QUINN: Which one?... Oh, I dunno... that Halloween party sometime ago. I was alright with the costume and all.

SANDI: Are you sure? You did wear a lot when you arrived to the party.

QUINN: I mean, the pink-and-white combination looked sooooo cute! You said so yourself.

SANDI: I said nothing of the sort. I might have made some sort of offhand remark about you looking like an ice cream... but what was said at that party is debatable at best.

QUINN: Well, you were also one that kept saying "Gee, Kuh-winn, if I were you, I'd show some skin... because you wouldn't dare be a um, tease, to your few fans... and at a Halloween party, no less"

SANDI: You might have had me confused with Stacy, Kuh-winn. She did drink a lot of punch there. Who knows what they put in it.

(pause)

QUINN: Well, you were the one that kept saying 'Show more skin! Show more skin!' like I was expecting to do that sort of thing.

SANDI: You have been known to harvest boys for your own purposes in the past. Must I bring up the Noodle Incident again?

QUINN: I only stopped at the boots, the panties, the nurse hat, and the little crosses. Besides, knowing you, if you were in the situation that you put me in, you would've gone farther... and probably charged money.

(pause again, then shouting from Sandi's end... really profane shouting... I'd rather not repeat it here)

(few moments later)

SANDI: Go on.

QUINN: It got worse once that kid got that nosebleed, and much worse when that other kid's head exploded. I felt so embarrased!

SANDI: Of course you were, Kuh-winn. You would do anything to get in a boy's pants... Ohhhhhh, wait... YOU do not partake in intimate sexual congress. My bad.

QUINN: It was worse when you got that one guy that drew me that ONE time to draw me in that state of affairs, looking like I wanted to do more than date the boys that were looking, if you know what I mean...

SANDI: It was bound to happen anyway, Kuh-winn. That stalker of yours, MDetector5 or whatever his loser-ass name is, was more than happy to take my money. He told me he would do ANYTHING for you, including but not limited to (again, I'm not repeating what Sandi said. She's got the mouth of a sailor for someone her age. I hear she gets that and her... less-than-endearing attitude from her mother. Judging from what I've seen, Mrs. Griffin is kinda hot, though)

QUINN: EWWWWWWW!!!! Sandi, those are pretty disgusting things to say, even for you.

SANDI: Whatever, maneater.

QUINN: All I'm saying is next time you want someone to take your little... dares, get Tiffany to do it.

SANDI: Might as well. I gotta get some more Mary Jane for her... gotta keep her constantly baked, and on the lowest position for the Fashion Club that I could think of. No one upstages me... NO ONE! I don't care if it was back before you showed up, she will always smoke weed under my watch!

QUINN: No, Sandi, I doubt she smokes weed, whatever that is... but that might explain why there are never any snacks at our meetings and why she talks so slow. Anyway it's getting late. I'll talk to you later. (hangs up) Wow... what a bitch.

SANDI (on other end): I heard that! Just for that, I suggest you watch your back at school tomorrow. (hangs up)

Things I Learned in 2009... They Ain't All Good Things...

2009 was a... well, it was a year, it was one where I did a lot of stuff that... well, some of it was good and some of it was bad.

Y'know, I've learned a lot of things this year, among them the following...

-It is NEVER a good thing to speed up the making-a-bad-situation-good process. It only makes things worse.

-It hurts to lose a friend. Sure, some might say "Eh, it's just the internet", but I've known some of these people for a number of years.

-When you say you'll do something, do it DAMN IT. Don't sit on your ass procrastinating. Sure, if you have your reasons as to why you're not doing something, then... I dunno.

-People don't like it when you repeat the content of your journals. Changing the words around don't help, either... and neither does name-dropping. People tend to frown upon those things.

-It's cool to see your friends get better at what they do. Dedication, hard work, and not taking BS from the usual sources of internet jackassery is the key.

-Just because the cool kids are doing something doesn't mean you have to... but if it means you finally get to update something really old, then by all means do it.

-There will be at least one or more than one person that will not care for your character or characters. There's nothing you can do about it, and forcing them upon said people don't help.

-Watching people stream is fun. Being a jackass in stream chat isn't fun.

-Tennessee is awesome. I want to go there again.

-Studying a drawing style is a cool thing to do. Out-and-out copying it might be going too far... I guess it's alright if you form your own style around it, though.

-Time is marching on... and time is still marching on. You're older than you've ever been, and now you're even older.

-For years I've been drawing expressionless fanart of a character that, ironically, has a lot of expression. Same goes for the fashion faction she's affiliated with.

And most importantly...

-Saying you're gonna change and ACTUALLY doing it are two entirely different things.

That said, I've been a jerk to some of you during this past year. I lost friends in certain artists, and I made already-bad situations between some of them worse. Trying to fix things led to trouble and my name being a permanent fixture on their blocklists.

I did, however, start to try to draw better (and actually MEAN it this time). I still have a long, long, LONG way to go. Hands still are an issue for me.

I resolve, in 2010, to be a better person and an better artist. That will not be lip service this time. If I want things to go GOOD for me here on FA (or anywhere online, for that matter), I'm going to have to work hard, stay on the up-and-up, and most importantly, NOT go back to the MD of old. And hey, who knows? Maybe some bad situations between me and some people might be forgotten.

So, here's to a happy (and HOPEFULLY most improved) 2010!

I put up some recent sketches up somewhere, but now I'm putting them here...
I finally took some damn initiative and started to improve my drawings. I did these two sheets first, sheets of men. Drawing guys is hard... especially if for years you've been drawing females... but damn it, I don't know why it took so long for me to do this... There are a couple more like this...
This one just above me, some of them were supposed to be of perspective.

Later, I did some more sketching, and... I might be on to something...
I can't say if things are coming together or now, but these are looking far better than what I have been doing. In fact, I took a liking to the one in bottom right...
I had some fun coloring this. I might do stuff this way from now on, with the sketchiness and the Photoshop and the all that stuff...
I didn't alter the linework in any way, however I did adjust the brightness and contrast so that it looked less... sketchy. I then colored and shaded as usual, but this time, I ran the shading through a Gaussian blur in order to try and smooth it out a bit.

That's much of what I've been doing lately. There might be more.

Another take on Hula Girl, as well as an earlier Hula Girl piece

This is a citified version of a certain character of an artist I like. He does some pretty good work, and has done it that good for a pretty long time. This particular character, named Hula Girl, I don't think he draws often (at least it SEEMS that way).

I have said for a pretty long time that I was not to draw her unless I made some improvement in my drawings. Not just drawing hands decently for a change or some decent sideview, but NOTICEABLE improvement. Well, uh, I did draw her, but not because I've gotten better. Hell, I have a long ways to go as it is, but it was out of boredom:

Well, it's... alright for a first attempt at her. Stuff looks... there.

Well, after that, a friend of mine, he went and inked it, and I colored that and added some more stuff in...

As far as coloring goes... well, the shading was done with burn and dodge. Yep. Burn and dodge. It's... well, I really want to do some decent cel-shading someday, but as it stands, I can't right now.

But, l like how this was inked. I even used part of a photograph as the background.

I don't know when I'll draw her again, but I hope it's soon, and I hope to do a damn fine job, too.

Miss Bee

I posted these on my FA page the other day, and well, I want to explain.

Well, this is how I want to draw Bee from now on. Bee is one of my characters, and she's... well, there were certain things about her that I went too far with back when I was on DA. Since getting rid of her entirely was NOT an option for me, the least I could do was tone her down a bit... QUITE a bit.

Well, I upped her age by about five years and made her a teacher. That oughta tone her down! Besides, as fun as it was to do all that crap with her back when I was on DA, it came at the expense of trying to get my drawings better, something that I really wanted to do all along. Eh, I'm still trying and all that...

So, where to begin with this idea? She's a teacher at the high school in her town, and... um, hijinks ensue. I wish I planned this out further, and I'm going to do that, too.

Second part of my walking around the Riverside/White River area.

Intersection of White River Parkway/30th Street and 30th Street/29th Street. This area had the most change in my years of living in this area. I took some photos around here to illustrate and explain. First off, looking down this street, it used to be you could go down that way to the next street down, only to turn right to that street. Technically you can still go down there, but most of it was repurposed into parking spots, and the rest was incorporated into park land for Riverside Park. In fact, it kinda looks a little obvious that they did that. I took a shot of that.

A somewhat better view of the street. It's strictly one-way now, and goes to 30th Street. Looking down, that's 30th Street, and it used to be you could go down the other way, but in a limited fashion. Behind me, I came from White River Parkway. It's an odd intersection, really. Turning right from where I am, would send you to 29th Street...

Okay, if you're still confused, let's say you're standing at this intersection where this shot was taken...

Going towards you BUT turning left goes from one-way 30th Street into two-lane 30th Street, going up used to go to the next street (E Riverside Dr), but is now parking space/park land, turning right at where you're standing goes into one-lane 29th Street, and going towards you but keeping straight (going behind you) keeps you on the same street, but it's now White River Parkway (one of at least three streets in and around this area to share that name - one is an East Drive, one is a North Drive). If you're still confused, I drew something out to probably help...

A little more background: Where those houses are in the distance, that used to be the site of the old Riverside Amusement Park. The park closed down in 1970, the rides/anything else left standing were tore down in 1978, and the land was fenced off, unused, and abandoned until 2000, when construction on the River's Edge subdivision started. Because of that, one of the streets next to E Riverside Dr (White River Pkwy E Dr, see below) was rerouted to connect with E Riverside Dr from 30th Street. The original entry way to White River Pkwy E Dr was blocked off a few feet from entry and turned into a parking lot for the nearby Naval Armory as well as a bike trail. Below are shots from that area.

And how the hell do I know all this stuff? Well, you don't live in an area for 14 years without seeing stuff and noticing stuff.

A shot of the Naval Armory at the intersection. For such an old building (I think it dates back to the 1930s), it still looks damn good.

Okay, where those houses are, that used to be abandoned land (see above), and where those parking lots are used to be the original route of White River Parkway East Drive. Due to construction, part of that street was rerouted. I took a shot that provides a better view of the original route (now parking lot space for the Naval Armory as well as a bike trail)...

Better view of what is now a bike trail/Naval Armory parking space from the other side. Took a bit of walking to get there, too. I think the bike trail is the only part of the original route that remains. That wall on the far right, is where various plants and the White River is.

Okay... See the sign on the far left? Continue to the right of that sign on the pavement below, you're on the bike trail/original route of this street. Continue foward past of that sign (i.e. go off on the road from where I was standing when I took this shot), and you're on the new route, that connects to E Riverside Dr. Continue to the far left, past the sign (going towards me and turning left), and you're on the remainder of the original route. The street, despite all the moving and building, still goes up to 38th Street.

Intersection of 30th and E Riverside/White River Pkwy E Dr. See that crease going across the grass down there? That used to be where you could turn right on E Riverside. Also, up until 2000, that street ended at 30th due to much of what I explained (or tried to explain) up there.

Back to that one shot, the one with the sign. I turned around, and this is the rest of that route. It's untouched, save for the houses on the right... and even that ends after another block or two put in by construction. The last three shots are me walking down this street from this point to 38th Street.

Well, those are all the pictures I took. I don't know when I'll go out and take more, but I hope they look as good as these (well, some of them don't look that great; there were issues with colors and brightness that I later fixed or tried to fix).

This is a pretty big-ass post, I am saying that right now... so much so, I'm splitting it into two parts. But, it's for a good reason: I wanted to take photos of this area for a long time.

The first two shots aside, I lived in that area of town for 14 years: from 1986 until 2000. There has been quite a bit of change, including street-rerouting construction (more on that later). That said, let's get to this!

First off, these two shots were taken downtown, at Ohio and Capitol:
This is the Indiana State Capitol. It's a very nice building, and this was the only shot I took. I would've taken at least two more, but then my bus came.

I turned around, pointed the camera up, and took this shot. I really like this one.

Now, the remaining shots are from the Riverside Park/White River area. It's a damn nice area, with parks, golf courses, and... it just looks so fucking beautiful. And hey, if I do some more digital coloring, these double as good ol'-fashioned background fuel!

This is the intersection of 16th and E Riverside Drive. For some reason, it used to be either "North Riverside East Drive" or "East Riverside Drive". I always used "East Riverside Drive" whenever I sent letters or other mail. But, this is a street that runs north and south, so they renamed it slightly, based on where it was next to the White River. Now it's E Riverside Drive. So, as an example, an address there would now be "2001 North E Riverside Drive" instead of "2001 East Riverside Drive". That sounds weird, but that's the way it seems it is.

This is the old house I grew up in. It kinda looks a bit worse since I was last there years ago (and, uh, two weeks ago, as I was looking for spots to take photos from). That birdbath and some of the bushes are still there. What is no longer there are the awnings (we took those down when we lived there, but still) and a big-ass tree that SHOULD be in the center of this shot. I still cannot believe they cut that tree down, man!

Front view of said house. That tree on the left, is, by the best of my recollection, still there.

You can't see the street, but this was taken at the intersection of 21st and E Riverside. What is on the far left side is a golf course, and it used to be that sometimes, I would find golf balls in the street or they would sometimes fly into windows.

I'm trying to find information on the structure in the center. That has been there for many years, and is named after the person responsible for the construction of Riverside Park, Thomas Taggart. Heck, he's responsible for the entire parks system here in Indianapolis. Indy Parks headquarters is not far from this spot.

Now, the area around this structure didn't always look like this. 20 years ago, that median wasn't even there, and there was a second road where playground equipment is now (on the far right side). That was filled in and built over due to expansion of the recreation center and the erection of said playground equipment.

Close up of Taggart Arch (I think that's what it was called; I'll have to check again...) I wish I could get closer, or even inside... but they put in a fence around it because of vandals. Damn vandals and their damn vandal-ing! Dammit!

My attempt at a ground-view shot. I kneeled down and held the camera down to the ground. I wanted to get the shot juuuuuust right... but it just doesn't seem that way. It'd look a bit cooler if that damn fence wasn't there.

These two shots were taken within feet of each other. The odd thing about the second one is that, if this was taken at a MUCH earlier time, I would be standing in the middle of a street. I said earlier that in order to expand the nearby recreation center and put in other improvements, changes had to be made, medians had to be put in, and streets had to be altered or eliminated altogether. I seem to like these two, but again, I wish I could've taken shots of the arch from inside.

Would you believe this mighty lake started out as a mere rain puddle? It's not even 20 years old. I'm pretty sure it started out this way. I mean, I used to pass this area on the way to school for many years.

Anyway, years ago, there was severe weather in the area over several nights, and it left behind a big puddle (about 1/4th the size of the lake). Over time, it just stood and stood until it was made into a lake. (I think the drainage pipe that was put in near it - somewhat visible on the left - had quite a bit to do with its lake-ification.) For a while, there was fencing around it, but now there isn't.

That's the end of the first part. The second part covers the rest of my walking around this area - including farther up the street that now connects to E Riverside - even though, just a few short years ago, it didn't.

Um, here are some of streets near my home:

Intersection of 41st and Bolton. Going left on 41st here will lead to a dead end. A school playground blocks that part of street off.

Intersection of 41st and Campbell. If that minivan is the focal point, than something something something else. I did the best I could to not make it look overexposed, but it still looks like the sky is glowing white. The same problem persists in other shots I took as well.

45th and Campbell, looking down Campbell. I kinda don't like this shot, the "going down" doesn't look as straight as the others, thus no focal point (in some of the earlier street shots, there was some perspective/focal point stuff, as if you were looking down the street... I think there's little of that here).

I got some more, at least two more posts worth, as well as some stuff I found out about the area I took them in, as I lived in that area of town for many years.

At any rate, I can only assume that Sandi didn't want to come along, saying something about how "the moon is dirty" and "those space monsters are sooo unfashionable", or something...

Looking back, I could've done a lot more with this piece beside use a couple of stock poses[tm]. Background, such as it is, looks kinda cool.

Here are some photos I took from various points in June and early July. I'm sorry if they don't look that great, but... you look and see.
This is looking down a street a few blocks from where I live. There used to be a LOT more trees lining the street, but people kept dumping there, so most of the trees were cut down and the area was cleaned up, and was made into a small park.

Looking down 38th Street (again), this time from the other side of the street. This was a hard shot to get, and I almost got hit by a car. I did, however, wanted take it with a car closer to the spot I took it from.

Near the Indiana State Fairgrounds, and one of the signs to it is on the far right side. There used to be a LOT of buildings around this area, even a restaurant on the corner of 38th and Fall Creek. It was torn down about 20 years ago to make way for more parking space. The same can be said for at least three office buildings and a motel. A temporary barn was also here, about a block or so from where this shot was taken. With the right cropping, I could use this as a pretty good background.

Gonna Put Older Drawings Here...

Starting today I'm going to put a lot of my older stuff (by "older stuff", I mean mostly stuff before September 2007), mostly comics and certain drawings. Though I am trying to improve currently, a few friends of mine have said that they liked some of the older stuff I did.

Looking back on these, however, there are construction, anatomy, and posing issues a plenty, including HANDS, my mortal enemy. I'm trying now to right the wrongs of my earlier drawings. I do hope you enjoy the older stuff, though, and take a look at the newer stuff, a great deal of which I post here.

Continuing those shots taken on May 23rd...
If this building was the focal point, I should've centered it more... Anyway, this is IPS School #98, and I used to go here back in... first and second grade. There is a park nearby here, but it seems hard to get to, and this always looked like a nice building. I couldn't go inside, but I did take a few shots around this area, as well as at that park.

This is looking down DuBarry Road, the street School #98 is on. This wasn't a good perspective shot. If, however, the focal point was that barely-visible sign in the center, then yeah, I'd say this was a damn fine shot!

The far west edge of the building, as well as a nearby tree. I could crop this shot by half, and use the tree for something. Dunno about the assorted greenery in the background, though.

I turned right around and took this shot. Another tree, and the school in far left, as well as DuBarry Rd. on the right. Nothing special about this one. It could work as a desktop wallpaper, maybe. MAYBE.

Part of the school's playground (albeit a small part), and a house in the background. And some of the walkway to one of the doors to the school can be seen.

There's a path hidden in the greenery (seen in one of the earlier shots of the school) that leads to this park. I don't think there's another way to get to it, but if there is one, it's either not easy to get to, or I haven't seen it. Anyway, here it is, and it looks like it's started to slide since the last time I visited it. Even most of the play equipment is gone...

A lot of this area is overgrown now, and large birds roam about. That thing near the bottom, is where a merry-go-round was (not the ones you see at a carnival, but those ones that you get on, and someone pushes). And that swing set looks like it hasn't been touched in years. I have been to this particular area two other times (to my best recollection): Once, back when I was in second grade (the merry-go-round was there back then); the other time in 2004, when this area looked a lot nicer, but a lake was put in, as well as some shelters.

I took this shot (and the next two) from the highest point of the only piece of playground equipment left, and part of it is right there. Also is the chimney from the school from earlier. Other than that, nothing much.

From the left side of where I took the last photo. Those trees look... kinda nice, but still, this park is in need of maintenance.

From the right side. More trees, and assorted greenery. Somewhere in this shot, though, is where I came into the park through the school playground. There's another entrance, but this was the only one I knew of.

Those are all the ones I took that day. I did take more, but those sucked.

I do have some more from later days, though.

Here are some shots that I took on May 23rd. I did go to some high places to take some of them, and the majority of them might show up as backgrounds in anything I might do later.
This was taken from the top of a bridge a few blocks from my house. I had to cross the street twice: once to get to this spot, and again to go back to the other side to go down the bridge. It was supposed to be a skyline of downtown Indianapolis (since whenever I'd look down the tracks when crossing, I would see the downtown buildings off in the distance). This shot didn't go as well as I thought, but I still like it, if not for the effort to get it.

Coming down the bridge, this was the view to my left. It looks... decent, I guess, but I could do without that big tree in the left. It looks a little intrusive to me.

I crossed the street again, and this was the view on that side. This is part of a construction company... well, it's part of the company's property. I always thought those trees looked nice, so I took a photo. I might have been better off using a different angle, but that big tree on the right (not the same tree in the last one), might intrude. It's not a good-looking tree.

Looking down Shadeland Ave. There might be lack of a focal point here, and I took this one (as well as the last three) that morning, yet the light levels vary. (I have everything on the camera set to Auto, so why things tend to over- or under-expose still, I have NO idea. Good thing I have a photo editor to fix some of these!) Um... I was looking down Shadeland going south. A LOT of car dealerships line this street from 38th Street on down to about 10th Street.

This is looking down 38th Street, a little past... 38th and Richardt. This shot looks similar to an earlier one I posted.

Here are the remainder of shots I took on May 22nd.
Interior (3rd floor) of a place I frequented all the time, the IUPUI University Library, near downtown. This is where I used to do most of my business before I got a computer at home. Yep... three days a week, most every week, for 7-1/2 years... Where did the time go?

2nd-floor entrance to IUPUI University Library. I haven't been here in nearly two years. The place has barely changed at all. Would you believe that this was once the site of one of IUPUI's parking lots? Then, for a few years after this was built, they still had part of the parking lot, but they re-sodded that area. It looks pretty beautiful now, and I took a shot near that area...

All that used to be parking lot. Usually when something is build, it's the other way around... but there it is. Right where that person is in far, far, FAR center, is where the parking lot ended. As said earlier, they re-sodded that area to make it look less... well, to beautify the area. I think the IUPUI website still has their historic photograph section up...

A different view of said area, and a new parking lot is in the background. It goes to a newer building, constructed a few years ago. That larger building there is a city/state government building.

That's the recent building, there, as well as some of... well, I guess you could call it a skyline, or part of it, anyway. The building on the right, the OneAmerica building, is the one of the tallest in Indianapolis. The building next to it, it had storm damage a few years ago, and it was fixed, but now they're making it look more modern.

Here are some more photos I took from May 22nd. I also took some more on other days, but the bulk of these were on May 22-23...This was on the westside of Indianapolis, near 38th and Moller (sometimes spelled Moeller) Road. This is a large grassy, field-like area I sometimes cut through to get to the department store in this area. That building on the right is not a department store, but a gym. And those trees are still trees, I think...

That in the far distance is said store.

That is a shot of Ohio Street downtown. I intend on using this one as a background for something I might do in Photoshop at an undetermined date. This was the only downtown shot I took.

Those are all for now. I think I have a few more, a couple of interior shots of the IUPUI University Library, as well as nearby buildings.

Looking at these, I do need to pick a focal point, as evidenced to a comment on the last post. I am new at this, so there is a lot to learn when doing something like this.

Sometime ago, I went out with a digital camera and took photos of places around Indianapolis. Here are a few of them. I am new to this photography thing, though, so a good number of these shots might suck. I also adjusted the brightness and color for some of these as well.
This is looking down 38th St. and... I'm sure it's Central Ave... or hell, maybe it's Capitol Ave.

This is from a little further down 38th Street. I love shots of the sky. Dunno why... but I think they look damn beautiful.

This is one of my favorite shots that I took that day, near Crown Hill Cemetery. I just love that particular part of town. Hell, anything past... I think 38th and Orchard going westbound, I like. Maybe it's because I lived on the westside of Indianapolis for so long... or maybe it's... SOMETHING ELSE!!!

Further down 38th. Um... this corridor (from 38th and Boulevard to 38th and MLK/Michigan Rd) has been improved quite a bit over the last... 20 or so years. That great median work there? Wasn't around back then. They made 'em look real nice... adds to the the general... landscaping and such. This is one of those backgrounds I could use if/when I do some digital art again.

Near 38th and Clarendon, the halfway mark of said corridor. This is my current wallpaper. I like how this one turned out, the shot really was that bright. I adjusted the color slightly.

I'm going to try to stick around a bit longer than I have lately. Things that were troubling me have been settled... but the thing is, I kinda got rid of a lot of stuff out of frustration.

I can guaran-damn-assure you it will not happen again.
